Some of the trucks that you will see on these pages
| A number of years ago I saw a one
page calendar that showed all the Ford
pickup trucks from the first one to the present day. I thought , what a nice idea. I thought that I might try something similar with some of the car pictures I have collected. I have been collecting pictures of Studebaker, Packard Nash, Hudson, Jeeps and pickup trucks for some time now and I first wrote a web page on the Studebaker. Then one on Jeeps , Packard and the Hudson and Nash followed. Next came the Kieser and Henry J. Now I with the help of one of my visitors have written on on the Crosley Now I thought I would try a web page on the Pickup Trucks of the 1940's to the 1960's. I also included some panel trucks and early SUV's of this period. They just seemed to fit right in with the pickups. These pictures came for a number
of sources including

A Brief History on the Pickup Truck
| Pickup trucks as we know them go back to the
early days of the automobile industry.
The first civilian Dodge Brothers' Commercial was the famous Screenside introduced in 1917 as a 1918 model. Dodge Brothers' famous Commercial Panel followed six months later after the Screenside. Dodge Brothers Company entered into an agreement with the Graham Brothers Company in 1921 whereby the Grahams would manufacture one and 1 1/2 ton trucks from mechanical parts supplied by Dodge and with cabs and bodies manufactured in the Graham's plants. The 1924 3/4 ton Dodge Brothers' pickup was actually built by the Graham Brothers. Also in 1918 Chevrolet brought out it's
model 490 Light Delivery chassis cowl. The chassis cowl consists of the
painted metal parts. The wooden cab and pickup type body were purchased
from an aftermarket manufacturer.
The first Ford pickups to hit the streets
was in the mid 1920s. Back then they came in one color, one model, and
without much equipment.

Before you begin I want to mention that I have
been told that some
of the pictures on my pages aren't loading
properly.
If this should happen to you just right click
on the area where
the picture is supposed to be and select "Show
Picture".
I have been told by the support team of my
hosting service that this problem
is a fault of MSIE and that we will have to
live with it.

This is probably the most famous
Hood Ornament used on a Pickup truck
but when it comes to old Pickup
trucks not many would disagree that
this is what it's all about.

Because this page has grown to such a size I decided to set it up in three separate pages.
The first one show the trucks
from 1911 to 1949.
This one will show trucks from
1950 to 1959 and
the last page from 1960 to 1973

I decided to do this page to help people identify
these trucks.

Gerald Mink Corsicana, Texas Gerald made the following comments. "I learned to drive in a 49 like this. The pickup is all original, 85k miles, still 6 volt and still has the original interior minus the headliner which rotted out. The body is extremely straight all that is not there is the wood in the bed because the original owner had it covered with a sheet of metal. I am in the process of restoring it and want to keep it as original as possible. I would like to find a set of 1950 license plates so I can register it as an original. If you or anyone you know can help I would appreciate it very much." |

| This truck is owned by Carolyn Mills, Ontario,
Canada
Carolyn had the following to say about her truck. "When this truck goes by it turns heads, gets thumbs up, people come to my door to ask questions and so on...This is my first vehicle I've owned..I spotted this truck out the corner of my eye one day at a car lot. I asked the driver to turn around I said that truck is mine. How much was it he asked..$7000.00 I said..Thinking I was mistaken and that it must of been $17.000 we turned aroun to go see him. I was right and I drove him home the next day...I refer to this truck as a [him] and his name is Black Beauty. He has a 400 transmission, dual exhaust, cherry bombs, hedders, tires that hug the road, 2 uga horns, 32 blue lites, and lites on the interior that cause a purple haze, as well when I lift my hood there are lites of purple haze. Two neon lites around my liscence plates. A hurst shifter, original windows, this truck sounds like a sherman tank coming down the highway. I love this truck..its a custom made box, its a chevy drive train...They say money talks, not to me, there isn't an offer out there that I would consider." |
This truck is owned by Paula Alexander
of Owosso, Michigan.
She had the following to say about it. "I just inherited a 1951 Ford F-1 pickup, straight 6. My Grandpa bought it used in 1954. It was his farm truck. I drove it in high school. My Dad restored it and gave it to me. I entered it in our local car show May 20 and it won first prize for the best full size truck, original. I grew up in Brandon Florida and that is where I first drove "Arthur". Dad Walt Markert lived most recently in Ocala Florida and Wesley Chapel Florida. My step son’s trucking company brought Arthur to his new home in Michigan in early May. When we girls drove him in high school and college in the late 60’s and early 70’s, we had to have a name for him. Arthur sounded somewhat distinctive and he was quite distinctive, although not as much so as he is today." |

"The truck is completely STOCK (even the radio works) except for the rims and tires. I wanted to drive something out here on our country roads and this suit me to a tee. I even haul gravel and dirt for my garden in it. I purchased the truck last year from a fellow who lived in Chicago .. I lucked out on the truck for it hasn't had any major problems and it starts and runs like a clock and is very clean... it sure is fun to drive.
