pickup trucks from the first one to the present day. I thought , what a nice idea. I have been collecting pictures of Studebakers, Packards Nash, Hudson and Jeeps for some time now and I first wrote a web page on the Studebaker. Then this one on the Jeep and and next came the Packard followed by the Nash and Hudson. I have since added a page on old Pickup Trucks , Hudson. Essex and Terrplanes of Australia , Volkswagen , Kaiser and Henry J and now I with the help of one of my visitors have written on on the Crosley. These pictures came for a number

| The Jeep, that wonderful little vehicle that
does just about everything.
It seems like it has been with us for ever but it didn't start it's life until 1940. In that year because of World War II the US Army issued a set of specifications For a general purpose utility vehicle. The specifications were as follows: The public tender
Ford, American Bantam and Willys-Overland answered
the call.
The name Jeep also has an interesting story to
it.
In 1970 AMC (American Motors Corp.) bought Jeep
from Kaiser.
A further note to the history of the Jeep was
provided by Rodney Hawk of Butler, Pa..

I hope you enjoy your tour
Before you begin I want to mention that I have
been told that some
of the pictures on my pages aren't loading
properly.
If this should happen to you just right click
on the area where
the picture is supposed to be and select "Show
Picture".
I have been told by the support team of my
hosting service that this problem
is a fault of MSIE and that we will have to
live with it.
The first four pictures are of World War II
Jeeps.
If you would like to view more of these old

Leo had the following to say about
his Jeep.
" I purchased the 46CJ2A Willys in 1983 from the grandson of the original owner who lived in San Bernardino, California and had purchased it new in April 1946 It was manufactured 10 Oct 1945. I have the original title. The Jeep had 35,000 miles on the odometer, it is unrestored and the color is original other than the wheels; which were yellow. The engine is the original 134Cu.In. 4cyl. Willys with a standard bore. Exterior was repainted and engine compartment fire wall was waxed. The metal was thick enough so that all holes were filled with a mig welder. The engine had a valve job, new rings & bearings. The radiator is original as is everything else including the wiring harness. Addition/changes: Roll Bar, Bikini Top, Flush Mount tail lights, GM internally regulated alternator, Pertronix Ign. & coil 12Volt. It is unique in that it is a column shift, rather than a floor shift. I spent 20yrs. looking for a Jeep CJ like the one I finally found (all original & no rust) just the one I had waited for." |

It has been pointed out to me that this Jeep is not stock. The spare tire was mounted on the right side. The gasoline can and spare tire makes the tail gate unusable. |

The owner had cherished it since new and had died earlier this year - they didn't know what to do with it and I liked it so well I bought it on the spot. "The Jeep is original - it's been a serious rural daily work vehicle in the mountains here for 40 years. The now dead owner cared for it, though, but made no cosmetic changes - except that he must fairly recently have taken advantage of a paint sale! What happened is that I had forgotten my wife's birthday - she was in Canada and I was here in CR at the time, so I made a hasty attempt at remedy and arranged a surprise gathering several months later when she came south at which I ceremoniously 'gave' her the Jeep as a late birthday present. She had no idea of its existence up the that moment, even though I had decided to buy it weeks before. She was not fooled, of course, knew I wanted a toy ... but went along with the flow!" |

This Jeep is owned by Ralph Hassel of the Philadelphia Pennsylvania area. Ralph has the following to say "For the most part, it's AMC stock. The 360 V8 didn't come with the Jeep (304 was the max size for the Jeep CJ) but it is an AMC engine out of the Grand Cherokee. If you need a list of specs, let me know. Most of the specs are in the Jeep rebuild pages of my site." |
